Enamel (glassy) coatings for steel protection against high temperature corrosion

Abstract: Vitreous ceramic-like enamel coatings can be applied onto low-alloy and carbon steel components of various configurations, including tubulars, by different cost-effective technological methods achieving thicknesses up to 300 µm. Corrosion resistance of the enamel coatings in acidic environments, boiling brines and high temperaturehigh pressure (HT-HP) steam with a presence of CO 2 -H 2 S containing gases simulating some processes in refinery, oil & gas and geothermal production was tested and evaluated. Specif… Show more

“…The glassy nature of enamel contributes to its high resistance to chemicals and abrasion. Moreover, they guarantee good protection against corrosion when deposited on a steel substrate [18][19][20], thanks to the strong adhesion between the coating and the same substrate [21,22]. Enamel coatings have a glossy appearance, and several brilliant colors are now available, enabling the creation of surfaces with diverse and appealing visual characteristics [23,24].…”
