Emulsion copolymerization latices for interior and exterior coatings

Abstract: Details the preparation of emulsion copolymerization of styrene (St)‐vinylacetate (VAc) with different molar ratio 33:67(A1), 50:50(A2) and 67:33(A3) using redox initiator system (k2S208/NaHS03) and investigates their film forming. Finds that the drying film characterization took on a brittle property which is attributed to the nature of styrene polymers. Explains that molar ratio 67:33 from butyl acrylate (BuA‐VAc) and vinyl acetate (B1, B2 and B3) in the presence of pluronic F87 was chosen as the coemulsifie… Show more

“…CML particles represent a model system for colloids synthesized by emulsion polymerization . Such particles are an essential part of many industrial formulations as their surface chemistry can be easily modified for specific applications . The SEM image in Figure a shows several CML particles, which have been deposited onto a silicon wafer.…”

“…As small colloidal particles are increasingly used in paints or adhesion promoters, their interfacial behavior represents an essential parameter for optimizing the formulations. Thus, the ability to determine adhesion forces on the level of single nanoparticles becomes increasingly important.…”

“…Liu and Xu (2000) introduced vinyl acetate as a raw material, PVA glue for protection, acid methyl ester as a modifier and discussed the effect of their different ratios on PVAc properties. Ayoub (1997) used a persulfate, sulfite oxidation-reduction system as initiator and studied different molar ratios (33:67, 50:50, 67:33) of copolymers of styrene/ vinyl acetate to form a thin fi lm process.…”
