“…In conclusion, most of the top fish‐producing sub‐Saharan African countries have policies and legislation that clearly outline the importance of the conservation of fish species so as to increase fish production and provide households with an inexpensive source of protein (Table 1). However, these policies omit key details and alone do not ensure effective outcomes, because government competence is judged by the effective implementation of these policies (Mugambwa et al, 2021). If responsible aquaculture practices are to be adopted across sub‐Saharan Africa, there is a need for the implementation of policies enshrined in the fisheries and aquaculture legislation.…”

“…While Uganda is one of the leading fish producers in sub‐Saharan Africa, its fisheries and aquaculture industries have been beset with problems due to weak legal, institutional and policy frameworks. To address these challenges, the Ugandan authority implemented the National Fisheries Policy 2004 to increase sustainable fish production through properly managing capture fisheries, promoting aquaculture and reducing post‐harvest losses (Mugambwa et al, 2021). This policy also provides regulations for the import and export of fish and fisheries products (http://extwprlegs1.fao.org/docs/pdf/uga201565.pdf).…”

“…In this study, policy information is defined as information about policies announced and implemented by governments and is operationalized as the different COVID-19 emergency and reopening stages announced by the NYC government. Policy implementation information influences a variety of outcomes, such as sustainable development (Mugambwa et al, 2020), environmental outcomes (Dermont, 2019), health policy acceptance and compliance (Allen et al, 2020), and coproduction (Mangai & De Vries, 2019). For example, Allen and colleagues (2020) systematically documented the research on the relationship between policy implementation information and outcomes and found that policy implementation information positively affects health policy accessibility and compliance.…”
