Employment of Emergency Advanced Nurses of Turkey: A Discrete-Event Simulation Application

Abstract: In the present study, problems in emergency services (ESs) were dealt with by analyzing the working system of ESs in Turkey. The purpose of this study was to reduce the waiting times spent in hospitals by employing advanced nurses (ANs) to treat patients who are not urgent, or who may be treated as outpatients in ESs. By applying discrete-event simulation on a 1/24 (daily) and 7/24 (weekly) basis, and by employing ANs, it was determined that the number of patients that were treated increased by 26.71% on a 1/2… Show more

“…Independent variables and dependent variables are the cornerstones of the design of experiment [13]. It is one of the best methods developed to measure the effect of independent variables on dependent variables in the design of experiment [14], [15]. In this study, four different independent variables and one dependent variable are defined to calculate the optimum value of the quality sugar score.…”

“…However, such studies do not consider the position of patients and the suitability of hospitals in the next activity. The ambulance service system has a dynamic structure due to real-time situations [1], [16], [26]. In such structured systems, optimization methods give limited answers.…”
