Empire as the Rule of War and Fascism

Abstract: This essay examines how empire has been taken up in Filipinx American studies, specifying how scholars in the field have approached empire as a political idea and as culture that registers its ongoing legacies, what is described here as the afterlives of empire. It also reflects on the current manifestations of empire in the form of fascism and the rule of war, epitomized by the US global war on terror and the Duterte regime in the Philippines.
