Zusammenfassung. Während der Entwicklung emotionaler und sozialer Kompetenzen im Vorschulalter fällt es Kindern zunehmend leichter, Gefühle richtig zu erkennen, diese zu regulieren und auch zielgerichtet in sozialen Situationen einzusetzen. Emotionale und soziale Kompetenzen stehen in Verbindung mit anderen bildungsbiografisch relevanten Kompetenzen und einem erfolgreichen Übergang ins Schulsystem. Diese Entwicklungsdynamik wird dabei durch individuelle Voraussetzungen und das soziale Umfeld beeinflusst. Während der COVID-19-Pandemie kam es zu zahlreichen Einschränkungen kompetenzfördernder Angebote, Kontaktverbote und einem erhöhten Stress- und Anforderungsaufkommen in Familien. Die vorliegende Längsschnittstudie untersucht die Entwicklung von Wissensleistungen und Strategien im Zusammenhang mit der sozial-emotionalen Kompetenz bei Vorschulkindern im ersten Shutdown. Die Ergebnisse deuten auf kurzfristige negative Veränderungen in der emotionalen Regulierfähigkeit und längerfristige Veränderungen im Bereich der sozialen Fähigkeiten über die Transition hin. Die Ergebnisse werden im Kontext pandemiebedingter Einschränkungen diskutiert und mögliche Implikationen werden abgeleitet.
