“…One prior study in pediatric kidney transplant recipients demonstrated impairment in recognizing emotional states (14). A recent study in adult kidney transplant patients revealed that alexithymia (the inability to recognize and express emotions) is positively correlated with noncompliance (28), underscoring the importance of recognizing deficits in social cognition. These findings support further investigation and validation of the Penn CNB in CKD populations.…”

“…12 Self-efficacy, 13 the self-belief that one can successfully carry out a specific behavior in a specific situation, has been shown to be predictive of improved health behaviors and outcomes broadly 1416 and in CKD specifically. 4, 8 In the few studies of self-efficacy in CKD, 1725 a broad range of scales have been used, ranging from generalized self-efficacy 19, 26 to self-efficacy in restricting dietary sodium. 20 Overall, the literature supports that self-efficacy in CKD is positively associated with medication adherence, quality of life, treatment adherence, education, and self-care behaviors, and negatively associated with depression, with gender and age having been shown to be modifying factors.…”

“…Moreover, other psychological variables had been highlighted to interfere with well-being in kidney transplant patients. For instance, high levels of alexithymia (Calia et al, 2015a) or insecure attachment dimensions (anxious or avoidant) had been positively associated with worse adherence to immunosuppressive treatment and negatively with health-related quality of life after kidney transplantation (Calia et al, 2015b). This study has some limitations that must be acknowledged.…”
