“…Third, contextual sensitivity is important for parents' emotion‐related socialization behaviors in communities in Asia. Consistent with Wang's (2022) situational level of analysis, during middle childhood, mothers' responses to children's anger and sadness in urban, predominantly Hindu families with low to middle incomes in India differed across interpersonal versus academic situations (Raval et al, 2016), and across situations with parents versus peers (Raval & Martini, 2009). Relatedly, who is providing the information matters: Parents' and children's reports of parents' responses to children's emotions were differentially associated with children's internalizing and externalizing problems during middle childhood in urban China (Fan et al, 2023).…”

“…While it is important to study cultural groups in different geographic locations to understand the role of culture in shaping cognition and behavior, studying different cultural‐ethnic communities in the same society is just as important and offers methodological advantages (Roberts et al, 2020; Wang, 2018). Research has shown that ethnic minority groups in the US often actively preserve their cultural traditions, values, and practices that are different from the mainstream culture (Ford, 2016; Gonzalez & Méndez‐Pounds, 2018; Wang, 2023). Studying the diverse groups in the US would thus allow us to understand how the unique cultural experiences of different communities influence memory and mental health in the same macro‐environment with implemented social distancing measures during the pandemic.…”
