Show more

“…Regarding the tympanometric findings in this study, namely, the TPP, Ytm and ECV measurements for 226-and 1000-Hz tympanometry, no statistically significant difference was observed between ears or genders. Tympanometry revealed a pattern of symmetry (≥ 70%) between the ears, which agrees with the findings described in the literature 21 . Regarding the type of tympanogram, we found a high incidence of DP curve at 226 Hz, representing 93.6% of responses, while at 1000 Hz, this type of curve was observed in only 5.1% of ears tested.…”

“…The immittance measures are capable of supplying quantitative information about the fluid presence in the middle ear and the volume of of the external acoustic meatus (5) . The values of admittance or impedance of the tympano-ossicular system characterize the tympanometric curves (2,6) .…”

“…The research of AR is performed by means of a tone stimulus of strong intensity, which will make possible the contraction of the middle ear muscles, especially the stapedius. It can be performed ipsilaterally (on the same side in which the stimulus was presented) or contralaterally (on the opposite side of the stimulus presented) in relation to the tested ear (6)(7)(8)(9) . The research allows to analyze and measure the thresholds of the acoustic reflexes in the frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000 e 4000 Hz (7) .…”

“…Failing this test, the individual should be referred to more complex diagnostic procedures. In short, the hearing screening has the aim to identify individuals with hearing impairments in order to refer them for otorhinolaryngological assessment and a complete audiological evaluation 7,8 . The Hearing Screening Programs have been demonstrating their relevance as the primary means for early detection of hearing loss in children.…”
