Emerging Trends in Curcumin Embedded Electrospun Nanofibers for Impaired Diabetic Wound Healing

Abstract: Chronic wounds impose a significant burden on individuals and healthcare systems all over the world. Through clinical and preclinical investigations, inflammation and oxidative damage have been established as the primary causes of chronic wounds. These skin sores are easily exposed to microorganisms, which in turn cause inflammation and hinder the healing process. Additionally, microorganisms may cause an infection that prevents collagen production and reepithelialization. Curcumin’s antioxidant, anti-inflamma… Show more

“…We stirred the resulting mixture at room temperature for 4 hours. 37 Subsequently, the PAN/CuO/curcumin solution was taken in a 5 ml syringe and inserted into a flow control electrospinning machine. This process was replicated several times and remarkable consistency in the synthesized samples was observed.…”

“…IL-10 is an inflammatory cytokine that is synthesized by macrophages, dendritic cells, T-helper cells, and activated T-helper cells ( 47 ). IL-10R is expressed most in immune cells, especially macrophages, where it inhibits antigen presentation and promotes phagocytosis.…”

“…Silk-based nanofibrous scaffolds loaded with asiaticoside enhanced the healing of lesions on diabetic induced rat models, and it also exhibited antibacterial effects against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus [ 48 ]. Curcumin is another phytochemical that has strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti- infective characteristics [ 98 ]. Polycaprolactone-based nanofiber loaded with curcumin demonstrated antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in diabetic mouse models as compared to nanofibers of polycaprolactone alone [ 33 ].…”
