Emerging trends and hotspots in the links between the gut microbiota and MAFLD from 2002 to 2021: A bibliometric analysis

Abstract: BackgroundThe prevalence of metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) presented a booming growth over recent years in the whole world. MAFLD was associated with a higher risk of end-stage liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma and liver transplantation. Accumulating evidence indicated that gut microbiota and MAFLD were interrelated and interacted with each other. However, to the knowledge of the authors, no bibliometric quantitative analysis has been carried out to evaluate the links between the gut mi… Show more

“…Scientific evidence suggests that genetic factors strongly influence the development of MAFLD, and these factors overlap with those identified as factors for NAFLD and NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis) ( 1 , 5 , 8 ). The patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing protein 3 gene ( PNPLA3 ), Membrane bound O-acyltransferase domain containing 7 gene ( MBOAT7 ), transmembrane 6 superfamily member 2 gene ( TM6SF2 ), and glucokinase regulator gene ( GCKR ) have been the most recognized genes involved in the pathogenesis of fatty liver diseases ( 9 , 10 ).…”

“…Bibliometric analysis involves a timely and comprehensive review of publications during a specific period by analyzing their parameters such as the number of publications, authors, countries, and regions, references, keywords, etc. This approach provides a thorough overview of the intellectual landscape and helps researchers by highlighting the latest research trends (17)(18)(19). We aimed to analyze the publication trend of MAFLD from 2012 to 2021, to identify novel discoveries in pathogenesis and possible treatment measures, and to provide a panoramic overview of the research field for other researchers.…”
