Emerging trends and hot spots in autoimmune thyroiditis research from 2000 to 2022: A bibliometric analysis

Abstract: BackgroundAutoimmune thyroiditis (AIT) is the most common autoimmune disease, affecting 3-5% patients worldwide. In recent years, approximately 200 articles on AIT have been published annually in various journals. However, to date, no article has systematically assessed the related literature. Therefore, we conducted a bibliometric analysis on AIT to reveal the dynamic scientific developments and help researchers gain a global perspective while exploring the hotspots and development trends.MethodsAIT-related a… Show more

“…In this network of co-citation references, 80 different clusters were identified, and we filtered 17 clusters with significant modularity and silhouette scores (Q= 0.6713; S= 0.8708). Q-values range from 0-1, with values greater than 0.3 indicating a significant delineation structure; S-values greater than 0.5 indicating reasonable clustering results, and 0.7 or more being more convincing ( 9 ).…”

“…When two publications are cited jointly by a third publication, this is referred to as a co-citation relationship, and co-cited references are usually regarded as a knowledge base in a particular field ( 9 ). In the visualization network of co-cited references, all nodes representing the references were clustered into 17 specific clusters with the highest K values, including “#0 omalizumab”, “#1 gemcitabine”, “#2 severe allergic asthma”, “# 3 il-5”, and so on.…”

“…27 For clinical researchers, grasping the focus of a specific field, obtaining precise cutting-edge information, and identifying research trends and hotspots is challenging. 28 Through the analysis and interpretation of literature data, Bibliometrics reveals patterns, trends, and characteristics of relevant thematic literature, thus determining the current research areas and potential future research directions, guiding further studies. 29 CiteSpace is one of the widely used software in bibliometrics, and we chose this software for our bibliometric analysis.…”

“…Autoimmune hypothyroidism is a pathological thyroid hormone deficiency caused by infiltration of circulating anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb), anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb) and thyroid lymphocytes. 6,7 The pathological features of lymphocytic infiltration, especially of T cells, and follicular destruction are the histological hallmarks of AIT, which lead to gradual atrophy and fibrosis. 8 The mechanisms that trigger autoimmune attack on the thyroid are still under investigation and involve both genetic and environmental risk factors.…”

“…AIT, the most frequent AITD, is the leading cause of hypothyroidism in iodine‐sufficient areas of the world. Autoimmune hypothyroidism is a pathological thyroid hormone deficiency caused by infiltration of circulating anti‐thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb), anti‐thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb) and thyroid lymphocytes 6,7 . The pathological features of lymphocytic infiltration, especially of T cells, and follicular destruction are the histological hallmarks of AIT, which lead to gradual atrophy and fibrosis 8 .…”
