“Limiting global temperature increase needs demand-side actions and lifestyle changes", stated the IPCC in their Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5. Building construction and operation are key to solving the climate and ecological crises and central for enabling sustainable development. To enable the sustainable transformation of the built environment, it is crucial to meet climate targets for buildings. However, it was shown that current building practice struggles to provide housing within planetary boundaries. What is needed are strategies for reducing building-related environmental impacts while at the same time providing adequate spaces as the social foundation for a regenerative and distributive, circular economy, as outlined for example in the doughnut economics concept. Social innovation, for example in the form of alternative models for spatial production and ownership, can help implement the sustainable development goals, and support regenerative lifestyles and emission reductions in the emissions-heavy building sector. However, today’s real estate market hardly supports the development and realization of alternative housing models. In response, practice shows that innovative models of housing are often driven by the initiative of the (future) inhabitants. In this study, we investigate and analyze different models of social innovation in housing based on three recently completed building case studies in Austria. The case studies are situated in a broad range of spatial contexts: re-activating the countryside, vitalizing a newly developed neighborhood, or bringing new life to abandoned, existing buildings. They are showcasing strategies such as: innovative models of (co-)financing and (co-)ownership to provide affordable housing; the shared use of spaces, functions and resources for reducing environmental footprints. We provide insights as to how alternative housing projects are being established successfully, what models groups are exploring for governance, financing and ownership, and which other social innovation practices may support or enable the implementation of regenerative lifestyles.

The aim of this work was to study the behavior, productivity and conditions of second lactation Bos taurus during the period of adaptation to new keeping and milking conditions. Thirty-four cows of the local black-and-white breed of the second lactation (24-47 days after calving) were transferred from a brick barn for 100 heads with tie-stall keeping in a newly low cost housing facility for 400 heads with free-stall keeping. Milking equipment also changed: before the changing conditions of keeping, cows were milked in the milk duct at UDM-100, and after changing the conditions in the milking parlor at Carousel, 32 cows were milked at the same time. We divided the first 30 days in the new conditions of keeping and milking into VI periods. The duration of the main behavioral reactions: lying down, drinking, and eating food in the first days after changing the conditions of keeping and milking decreased significantly -by 181; 13 and 89 min, respectively. Behavioral responses at the end of the adaptation period (30 days) was lower than on the last day before changing housing and milking conditions. During the first 5 days after the change of housing and milking conditions, the average productivity of cows decreased by 1.39 kg (or 6.01%), content of milk fat, protein and lactose by 0.03; 0.02 and 0.04%, respectively compared to the last day before the transfer of animals. As for the fat content, the level of the indicator of the last day before the cows transfer was reached in the IV period; protein and lactose in the ІІІ period (11-15 days).

The Impact of Entrepreneurship Competitions on Entrepreneurial Competence of Chinese College Students

Entrepreneurship competitions are an important way to implement entrepreneurship education in universities and the main way for many students improve their entrepreneurial competence. To clarify the mechanism of the role of entrepreneurship competition on the entrepreneurial competence of university students, based on data from a sample of 170,764 university students from 31 provinces in China, this study constructs a moderated mediation model that focuses on the mediating role of entrepreneurial spirit (ES) in entrepreneurial competition (ECompetition) and entrepreneurial competence (ECompetence) and the moderating role of entrepreneurial practice (EP). The results showed that ECompetition found to have a significant positive predictive effect on ECompetence. ES plays a mediating role in the relationship between ECompetition and competence. The direct predictive effect of ECompetition on ECompetence and the mediating effect of ES on their relationship is moderated by EP. The results provide a new perspective on the impact of entrepreneurship competition on college students’ entrepreneurial competence and expands the experiential learning theory in entrepreneurship education.
