Emerging MRI Techniques in Clinical Practice of Cerebrovascular Diseases

Abstract

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive imaging technique without ionizing radiation. Nowadays, MRI plays an irreplaceable role in neuroscience research and the clinical practice of multiple neurological diseases. The cerebrovascular diseases consist of a major threat to public health, where MRI provides new biomarkers for early diagnosis. Meanwhile, some challenges still exist, including long scanning time, sensitivity to motion, poor imaging quality on some tissues, as well as high costs. This chapter summarizes the emerging techniques in MRI imaging and the clinical applications in common cerebrovascular diseases. It provides an overview on the state of the art, unmet challenges, and future directions for clinicians, researchers, and other stakeholders.
