Esta incorporación implica desde disponer de publicidad online hasta desarrollar tratamientos en la web; es por ello que algunos sostienen que estamos presenciando el nacimiento de una nueva forma de tratamiento: la intervención mediante internet (Andersson, 2009).Internet y los ordenadores pueden brindarle muchas posibilidades y ventajas al trabajo clí- INTERNET Y PSICOLOGÍA CLÍNICA: REVISIÓN DE LAS CIBER-TERAPIASLos inicios en el empleo de las nuevas tecnologías de la información y comunicación (TICs) en el ámbito de la salud podrían datarse en torno a 1960, con el objetivo de enviar imágenes radiográfi cas (Schopp, Demiris, y Glueckauf, 2006 Resumen: Las ciber-terapias, como intervenciones de ayuda psicológica sustentadas en internet, se están transformando en un complemento y alternativa a la atención tradicional comenzando a demostrar efi cacia. Lamentablemente existen pocas publicaciones al respecto en español. Es por ello que la presente revisión plantea los argumentos que justifi can el uso de las ciber-terapias, defi niendo algunos términos necesarios para comprenderlas. Posteriormente se señalan sus ventajas y desventajas, los aspectos a considerar para su implementación, así como algunos ámbitos en que han sido utilizadas. En este escenario, la presente revisión proporciona una amplia, actualizada e introductoria visión de la cuestión de las ciber-terapias relacionadas con la psicología clínica.Palabras clave: Psicoterapia, internet, e-terapias, terapia online, psicología clínica, ciber-terapias. Internet and clinic psychology: A review of cyber-therapiesAbstract: Cyber-therapies, being psychological interventions by means of the Internet, are transforming into a complement for and an alternative to traditional attention, and are beginning to show effectiveness. Unfortunately there are few publications on the subject in the Spanish language. Thus this review proposes arguments justifying the use of cyber-therapies, and defi nes some terms needed to understand them. Subsequently we point out their advantages and disadvantages; the issues to be considered for their implementation, as well as the areas where they have been used. Along these lines, this review provides an ample, updated and introductory overview of the subject of e-therapy associated with clinical psychology.

Telepsychiatry is one of the most longstanding telemedicine disciplines, having started over a century ago with the inception of the telephone; its modern form dates from about 1960.Telepsychiatry uses information and computer technology for diagnosis, therapy, follow-up, forensic purposes, pharmacotherapy management, psychiatric education, etc. Telecommunication links between a remote site and another to which a request/referral is made, allow data transfer (e.g. of videoconferencing images, history, reports and teaching material). Links range from telephone lines to rapid-transfer wireless links. Two or more persons at different locations (typically, a psychiatrist and a patient) most frequently use interactive videoconferencing for the provision of psychiatric expertise not otherwise available at the sender's (i.e. patient's) location. Enormous progress in telepsychiatry and all forms of telemedicine has been made recently, owing to rapidly decreasing costs of computing power, and larger data transfer capacity and storage, which allow telepsychiatry to provide unprecedented access to mental health services, and especially in rural areas. 1 Videoconferencing v. face-to-facePsychiatry is so firmly associated with face-to-face interaction that telepsychiatry's successes are insufficiently appreciated. Applications of telepsychiatryTelephonic interaction has a long history in telepsychiatry, and still remains important, as recent studies in the USA attest. In one report, 15% of such calls were 'urgent' and 1.5 % were 'emergencies'. In the UK (and many other countries, including Attitudes of patients and the providers of psychiatric services are discussed, and a short account is given of the place of tele-education in psychiatric teaching. The advantages of telepsychiatry are outlined and its limitations are discussed.Lastly,the limited experience and relevance of telepsychiatry in South Africa (and hence for other developing countries)are presented. The conclusion is that telepsychiatry is well established, its successes documented, and that it should be applied in planning future public health services in South Africa.articles
