Emergence of Nanoplatelet Light-Emitting Diodes

Abstract: Since 2014, nanoplatelet light-emitting diodes (NPL-LEDs) have been emerged as a new kind of LEDs. At first, NPL-LEDs are mainly realized by CdSe based NPLs. Since 2016, hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite NPLs are found to be effective to develop NPL-LEDs. In 2017, all-inorganic perovskite NPLs are also demonstrated for NPL-LEDs. Therefore, the development of NPL-LEDs is flourishing. In this review, the fundamental concepts of NPL-LEDs are first introduced, then the main approaches to realize NPL-LEDs are sum… Show more

“…The introduction of a doping-free technique or solution-processed fabrication method is expected to be useful. After solving the aforementioned problems, the prospect of mass production for tandem WOLEDs will be possible and the proposed solutions are also beneficial to the related optoelectronic field (e.g., display, lighting, laser, solar cell, photodetectors and sensors) [233,234,235,236,237,238].…”

“…For instance, the lifetime of hybrid WOLEDs can exceed >30,000 h at 1000 cd m −2 [209]. Particularly, as "warm-white" OLEDs have recently demonstrated with high efficiency and stability [210][211][212], it may be helpful to develop exciplex-based WOLEDs based on this technology, enhancing their potential in the optoelectronic applications [213][214][215]. Therefore, more stable donor and acceptor materials should be urgently explored.…”

“…Since Joo et al used a low-temperature solution-phase strategy to synthesize the first 2D CdSe nanoribbons/CQWs showing a wurtzite structure 1D confinement in 2006 [ 98 ] and Dubertret et al prepared 2D zinc blende CQWs in 2008 [ 99 ], various colloidal synthesis pathways have been reported to engineer the electronic structure and optical characteristic of CQWs. Nowadays, apart from the core-only structures, CQWs with heterostructures are available (e.g., core/shell CQWs, core/crown CQWs, and core/crown/shell CQWs), which greatly widen the application range of CQW emitters [ 100 , 101 , 102 ]. In particular, the recently developed hot-injection shell growth technique enables CQWs with near-unity PLQY, which renders CQWs able to yield desirable performance in both lasers and LEDs [ 103 , 104 , 105 ].…”
