“…Isolate 12 harbors a P0111_1 plasmid, isolate 19 harbors a IncI2_1 plasmid, and isolate 189 harbors a IncI2_1_Delta plasmid. There have been studies showing that mcr-1 harboring IncI plasmids were prevalent in various Enterobacterales in China, including animal-originated E. coli isolates (Tang et al, 2022;Wang et al, 2022), Escherichia fergusonii, and Salmonella (Tang et al, 2020;Tang et al, 2023), which were also observed in our study.…”

“…At the same time, the AMR rates of A/C (3.31%), MEM (2.76%), CL (5.52%) and CAZ (7.18%) were low. CL and MEM are recognized as the last line of defense against gram-negative bacteria ( Lin et al, 2022 ; Wang et al, 2022 ) and low AMR rates reveal their resistance’s effectiveness is decreasing.…”

“…The recent emergence and rapid increase of multi-drug resistant (MDR, resistance to more than three kinds of antibiotics) bacteria have caused public concern, represented by Escherichia coli resistant to carbapenem, colistin and tigecycline which were recognized as the last line of resort ( Li et al, 2017 ; He et al, 2019 ; Ma et al, 2022 ). Due to incorrect use and misuse of antibiotics, the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is accelerating ( Wang et al, 2022 ; Tang et al, 2022a , b ). The continuous spread of AMR not only increases the difficulty of preventing and controlling livestock and poultry diseases but also seriously threatens livestock products’ safety and endangers consumers’ health ( Xu et al, 2022 ; Li et al, 2022a ).…”

“…Meanwhile, the backbone structure of bla NDM-5 -carrying the IncX3-type plasmid was highly conserved, including the ISAb125-IS5-bla NDM-5 -bleO-trpF-tat-cutA-IS26 gene cassette, the T4SS systems, the plasmid replication/maintenance genes and mobile elements IS3000, Tn2 (Figure 5). Moreover, bla NDM-5 gene was mostly located on the Incx3-type plasmid in MNPECs, regardless of the location of the mcr-1 gene on the chromosome or plasmid (Yu et al, 2016;Kong et al, 2017;Ho et al, 2018;Kuang et al, 2022;Wang et al, 2022). This indicated that IncX3-type plasmid was the dominant vector for carrying bla NDM-5 and disseminate the carbapenem resistance in MNPECs.…”
