Emeraldine Base Form of Polyaniline Nanofibers as New, Economical, Green, and Efficient Catalyst for Synthesis of Z-Aldoximes

Abstract: A facile, clean, economical, efficient, and green process was developed for the preparation of Z-aldoximes at room temperature under solvent-free condition using emeraldine base form of polyaniline as novel catalyst. In this methodology, PANI base absorbed the by-product of HCl (polluting chemical) from hydroxylamine hydrochloride and converted to polyaniline-hydrochloride salt (PANI-HCl salt). This PANI-HCl salt could be easily recovered and used in new attempts without any purification in many areas such as … Show more

“…1, and their corresponding peak positions are reported in Table 1 along with the reported ''conventional'' polyaniline SALT and BASE [14]. IR spectra of PANI-CAPS-H 2 SO 4, PANI-CAPS-DHS, and PANI-CAPS-DHS-H 2 SO 4 are very nearly the same, which result is in turn similar to that of the reported PANI SALT.…”

“…6,7,9,22−24 The emeraldine base (EB) form has been deployed in relatively fewer applications such as CO 2 sensing, 25 as the insulating layer in polymer LED, 26 in antireflection coating for infrared optics, 27 and as a catalyst in organic synthesis. 28 In view of the observations noted earlier, we visualized that the EB form would be a simpler and more suitable candidate to develop an efficient humidity sensor. Even though EB is more stable than the oxidizable leucoemeraldine and the easily degraded pernigraniline forms of PANI, it is relatively less stable than ES owing to its lower oxidation state and the nonionic structure; its lower solubility adds to the difficulties of thin film and device fabrication.…”

“…Humidity sensor development using PANI and its composites has largely been focused on the ES form, thanks to its higher and tunable electrical conductivity. ,,, The emeraldine base (EB) form has been deployed in relatively fewer applications such as CO 2 sensing, as the insulating layer in polymer LED, in antireflection coating for infrared optics, and as a catalyst in organic synthesis .
