Embryonic pattern of cartilaginous head development in the European toad, Bufo bufo

Abstract: The craniofacial skeleton of vertebrates is a major innovation of the whole clade. Its development and composition requires a precisely orchestrated sequence of chondrification events which lead to a fully functional skeleton.
