Embodied Mindfulness Questionnaire: Scale Development and Validation

Abstract: Recently developed mindfulness scales have integrated aspects of the body in measuring mindfulness unlike other established scales. However, these scales focused solely on body awareness and did not embrace all aspects of mindfulness and the body. Specifically, they did not integrate embodiment in mindfulness. The proposed Embodied Mindfulness Questionnaire (EMQ) aims to operationalize the proposed notion of “embodied mindfulness” by grounding it into five dimensions, each representing a set of skills that can… Show more

“…In fact, these measures can assess different conceptual components of mindfulness and have distinct and often modest correlations with each other (Siegling & Petrides, 2014). Further, the FFMQ measures a disposition to being mindful, but other scales measure specific skills that can be trained to cultivate mindfulness (e.g., the Embodied Mindfulness Questionnaire; Khoury et al, 2021). It, therefore, remains unclear if other measures of mindfulness would mediate the associations we found, and the generalizability of our findings is limited to the use of the FFMQ as a measure of mindfulness.…”

“…There were six weekly online sessions (90-min duration) that involved teaching, discussion, and meditative practice (all facilitated by the third author). The program was partially based on the embodied and embedded mindfulness and compassion framework (EEMCF; Khoury, 2018 , 2019 ; Khoury & Dionne, 2020 ; Khoury et al, 2019 , 2020 , 2021b , 2017a , b ). The program was developed with the expectation that participants would be novice meditators.…”
