Embodied energy is termed as the total (direct and indirect) energy required to produce economic or environmental goods and services. It is different from the direct energy measurement of energy consumption. Due to the importance of energy security, it has attracted increasing attention. In order to explore whether and to what extent embodied energy can provide a more innovative approach and competitive perspective to energy security issues, 2608 relevant pieces of literature from the Web of Science core collection are analyzed in this study. Results show that embodied energy has been taken seriously. Moreover, by reviewing the typical literature, this paper first summarizes the embodied energy calculation methods and models, then investigates how embodied energy provides a new perspective to energy issues, and lastly analyzes how to show value in energy security issues in its application of guiding policy-making and energy security studies. In summary, there is no doubt that embodied energy can provide a more integrated perspective on energy consumption and demand and provide a more scientific reference for policy-making to enhance energy security. However, because of data and application scope limitations, establishing a comprehensive energy security research and application system with embodied energy measurements needs hard work.

China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) will inevitably affect global energy cooperation. Along the Belt and Road, there are many developing countries. To understand the energy cooperation and development of these countries comprehensively is of great significance to guide their development and evaluate the impact of the BRI on the world energy and economic pattern. However, there is insufficient attention on those countries. Based on embodied energy analysis, a method which can track direct and indirect energy consumption in the economic system, effectively linking energy with the economy and environment, this paper proposes an evolution model of the embodied energy flow of the countries. Then, it simulates the evolution of the embodied energy flow under different cooperation strategies. The results show that if cooperation between countries positively affects their cooperation with other countries, adopting a mixed strategy is an advisable choice. On the contrary, cooperation with “powerful” countries in the network will be more conducive to the embodied energy flow. This article provides a new perspective and foundation for further discussion on the economy, trade, and energy cooperation along the Belt and Road.

In the current situation of U.S.-China trade turbulence, this study focuses on quarterly panel data from May 2016 to September 2019 in order to verify the effectiveness of feedback trading strategy and smart money theory in stabilizing U.S.-China securities markets and to understand the role of institutional investors’ behavior, to come up with suggestions for improving and perfecting the market mechanism in stabilizing the U.S.-China securities markets. In this study, we adopt the generalized method of moments (GMM) to perform dynamic panel data analysis and discuss the changes in professional institutional investors’ behavior and equity market sentiment in the U.S. and China during the trade turbulence, and then analyze whether that behavior will suppress local stock market sentiment. Through empirical research, we found that institutional investors on both sides of the trade turbulence have a different impact on the stability of the local securities market. The behavior of institutional investors in the United States has played a role in stabilizing equity market sentiment in accordance with feedback trading strategy and smart money theory. However, the behavior of institutional investors in China is the opposite.
