Embedding virtual topologies in networked clouds

Abstract: Embedding virtual topologies in physical network infrastructure has been an area of active research for the future Internet and network testbeds. Virtual network embedding is also useful for linking virtual compute clusters allocated from cloud providers. Using advanced networking technologies to interconnect distributed cloud sites is a promising way to provision on-demand large-scale virtualized networked systems for production and experimental purposes. In this paper, we study the virtual topology embedding … Show more

“…An ExoSM plans and sequences the resource requests and stitching actions to the AMs based on declarative semantic models that advertise the resources and capabilities of the participating aggregates [3,24,2]. The ExoSM obtains these domain models from a common testbed-wide broker (ExoBroker) that is accepted by all ExoGENI aggregates and receives all of their advertisements.…”

“…In [27] and [28], the authors put forward an approach to reduce the carbon footprint by redirecting the traffic to cleaner geographical locations. In [29], the authors proposed an algorithm that splits the coming traffic to different data centres instead of one destination, with the main objective being to balance the coming workload prior to processing. A highly related work to our problem can be found in [30], where the number of VMs a server can support is experimentally assessed.…”

“…Many approaches in the literature embed virtual nodes and virtual links separately [14], which entails a loss of efficiency. Virtual network embeddings have also been studied for crossprovider settings [15] and also from a distributed computing point-of-view [16].…”
