Objective. This work sought to analyze the scientific production regarding the work process of nurses in Primary Health Care in the Colombian context. Methodology. Integrative literature review. The research question was: how is the work process of nurses in Primary Health Care in Colombia? Information collection was carried out during August and September 2021. The databases consulted were: SCOPUS, LILACS, Science Direct, VHL, PubMed and the SciELO electronic library. The inclusion criteria were: original articles published between 2015 and 2021. Results. Three articles were selected to comprise the final sample. Three thematic categories emerged from the results for analysis: knowledge of nursing professionals about PHC; barriers in the work process of nursing professionals in PHC; nursing professional practices in PHC. Conclusions. This review of the literature revealed lack of scientific evidence concerning the role of nursing professionals in primary care in Colombia. It is essential to elucidate the role of nurses in primary care to continue on the path of consolidating and improving actions and strategies, especially in the current context of policy reform of the Colombian health system and the global interests to strengthen primary care.

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of advanced practice nurses with respect to complex chronic wounds (APN-CCWs) in the care of patients with venous ulcers. A multicentric, quasi-experimental pre-post study was conducted without a control group in the sanitary management areas where the APN-CCW program is being piloted. The intervention consisted of a mass training of clinical nurses from the participating districts on the proper management of injuries and the use of compression therapy. The data were collected through a specifically constructed questionnaire with questions regarding descriptive variables of injuries and their treatment. A total of 643 professionals responded (response rate of 89.1%), attending to a total population of 707,814 inhabitants. An increase in multilayer bandage use by 15.67%, an increase in elastic bandage use by 13.24%, and a significant decrease in the referral of patients to consultation with hospital specialists was achieved, from 21.08% to 12.34%. The number of patients referred to the APNs was 13.25%, which implied a resolution rate of 94.08% of their injuries. In conclusion, the coordination by the APN-CCWs in patients with venous ulcers was effective in improving the continuity of care, in the optimization of resources, and in their care role.

This article reports the findings of a small evaluation audit which compares the Dyna-Form Mercury Advance Mattress to that of the Softform Premier Active Mattress (a foam mattress with dynamic underlay). A small group of patients with similar co-morbidities who were an emergency admission were recruited to an evaluation audit. Their median age and Waterlow score indicated that these patients were at high risk of pressure ulcer development. All patients were given the same nursing care on the two mattresses and all were moved, handled and repositioned 2-4 hourly. Of the patients nursed on the Dyna-Form Mercury Advance mattress, three did not develop pressure ulcers. The two who already had pressure ulcers when they were recruited appeared to have healed within four days. Of the patients nursed on the Softform Premier Active mattress, three patients did not develop ulcers and two did. Although the sample size was small, the comprehensive assessment gave interesting results, particularly on the Dyna-Form Mercury Advance. A larger study may be of benefit to demonstrate efficacy of these products further.
