Elucidation of Antioxidant Compounds in Moroccan Chamaerops humilis L. Fruits by GC–MS and HPLC–MS Techniques

Abstract: The aim of this study was to characterize the phytochemical content as well as the antioxidant ability of the Moroccan species Chamaerops humilis L. Besides crude ethanolic extract, two extracts obtained by sonication using two solvents with increased polarity, namely ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and methanol-water (MeOH-H2O) 80:20 (v/v), were investigated by both spectroscopy and chromatography methods. Between the two extracts, the MeOH-H2O one showed the highest total polyphenolic content equal to 32.7 ± 0.1 mg GA… Show more

“…The flower, leaf and stem hydroalcoholic extracts of S. pubescens subsp. pubescens were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to a photodiode array and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry HPLC-PDA/ESI-MS. [44][45][46] Sample preparation: The dried extracts were redissolved in 70 % MeOH. For the chromatographic separation, an injection volume of 5 μL was employed, and the analysis was performed in triplicate.…”

“…Chromatographic separations were carried out on Ascentis Express RP C18 columns (150 × 4.6 mm; 2.7 µm) (Merck Life Science, Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany) [47][48][49]. The employed mobile phase was composed of two solvents: water (solvent A) and ACN (solvent B), both acidified with 0.10% formic acid v/v.…”

“…The anti-free radical activity was determined using the 2,2diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl method according to a method earlier described [19][20][21][22]. Briefly, different concentrations of extracts (25 μl) were added to 2 ml of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (6.25 × 10 −5 M) solution.…”
