Elimination of Indoor Volatile Organic Compounds on Au/SBA-15 Catalysts: Insights into the Nature, Size, and Dispersion of the Active Sites and Reaction Mechanism

Abstract: Gold catalysts, with different particle sizes ranging from 19 to 556 Å, and supported on SBA-15 mesoporous silica, were prepared by using deposition-precipitation, co-precipitation, and impregnation methods. All samples were characterised by TEM, EXAFS, XPS, XRD, CFR (Continuous Flow Reactor), and TPR. The sample which proved to have the highest activity was characterised by TAP (Temporal Analysis of Products) as well. XPS, wide-angle XRD, EXAFS, and H2-TPR measurements and data analysis confirmed that gold wa… Show more

“…[30][31][32] For example, in the selective oxidation of alcohols, oxygen molecules adsorbed and activated on the surface of gold catalysts dissociate into active oxygen atoms, O*, which interact with alcohol molecules to form alkoxy intermediates and initiate the reaction cycle. In CO oxidation 33,34 and volatile organic compound oxidation, 35,36 the co-adsorption of reactants and oxygen at oxide interfaces or surface defect sites 37 is an essential step. 38,39 A study on alcohol oxidation reaction showed that gold catalysts exhibit better selective oxidation activity aer being subjected to ozone treatment.…”
