“…(2005) shows that CAT activity was lower in JA treated Morinda elliptica cell cultures after 6 days of elicitation. The suppression in CAT activity have similarly been reported in fungal-elicited Catharanthus roseus cell cultures (Zhao et al, 2001) and water-stressed in strawberry plants (Wang, 1999). In contrast, MJ treatment of strawberry plant increases CAT activity (Wang, 1999).…”

“…In our work, induction of peroxidases (POD) in melon cells during the time course of elicitation, may result from enzyme activation and/or the de novo differential expression in POD isoforms, implicating them in stress alleviation, as POD expression is controlled by multiple genes (Gomez-vasquez et al, 2004). On the other hand, Bestwick et al (1998);Martinez et al (1998) and Zhao et al (2001) found that apoplastic peroxidases have been responsible for the oxidative burst in an increasing list of plant species. Cell wall-bound POD enzyme activity in melon tissues treated with JA collaborates in H 2 O 2 production, but it is not the major factor, but implicates it in cells membrane stability disturbance resulted in transient leakage of important compounds into growth media.…”

“…In contrast, the CAT activity was suppressed in MJ treatment while the GPx level was increased, which could suggest that the CAT functions in H 2 O 2 removal were compensated by the GPx enzyme. A reduction in the level of CAT activity was also observed in Panax ginseng (Ali et al, 2006) and C. roseus (Zhao et al, 2001), with the activities of these enzymes reverting back to normal levels 6 days after elicitation.…”

“…Interestingly, we found the increased levels of POD were closely associated with accumulation of TIAs, including VIN, VBL and CAT under the early drought stress. Previous reports showed that the abiotic stresses can increase the alkaloid content in plants by treatment of salinity, various chemicals and bioregulators (Zhao et al 2001;Karadge & Gaikwad 2003;Misra & Gupta 2006).…”
