“…Subsequent to written informed consent obtained from all participants, surgical biopsies were undertaken at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic, Faculty of Dentistry, Chiang Mai University, to collect gingival tissues (~3 × 3 mm) surrounding unsalvageable teeth planned for tooth extraction of 33 patients (age range 41–63 years), diagnosed with chronic periodontitis according to the criteria of the American Academy of Periodontology, 1999 , and normal non‐inflamed gingival tissues overlying bony impaction of third molars from 23 healthy volunteers (age range 23–32 years).
