“…Two consecutive fat-rich mixed meals to healthy young males [75] or two consecutive mixed meals to T2DM patients [76] yield similar results in which impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilatation is associated with elevated levels of circulating platelet-derived MVs and endothelial-derived MVs. Increased level of CD31 + /annexin V + MVs is positively correlated with the impairment of coronary endothelial function in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) [62] .…”

“…Impaired flowmediated dilation has been associated with the presence of EMPs in various clinical conditions. [85][86][87] However, the level of LMPs was not measured in these studies.…”

“…CD144ϩ EMPs circulate in patients with uncomplicated type 2 diabetes and are associated with postprandial metabolic derangements and impaired flow-mediated dilation. 87 CD144ϩ/annexin Vϩ EMPs are higher in patients than in control subjects and rise after consumption of meals. In healthy males, after 2 consecutive high-fat meals, mild elevations in plasma glucose and triacylglycerol were paralleled by impaired flow-mediated dilation, increased markers of oxidative stress and total circulating MPs.…”

“…As it has been demonstrated that statins reduce postprandial lipid excursions in several patients groups, including MetS (Hajer et al, 2009), we excluded subjects using statins or other lipid-lowering drugs. Participants were instructed to omit their medication during the examination and to refrain from heavy physical activities during the previous 24 h. After an overnight fast, participants received three consecutive, isocaloric (900 kcal) mixed meals (75-g carbohydrates, 50-g fat and 35-g protein) at time points t ¼ 0 h (breakfast), 4 h (lunch) and 8 h (dinner) and were studied during a 16-h period (Tushuizen et al, 2007). Venous blood collections were performed before and 4 h following every single meal (t ¼ 0, 4, 8, 12 and 16 h) for measurements of plasma lipids, glucose, insulin and for measurement of the physicochemical properties of HDL and LDL.…”
