“…Platelets maintain the integrity of the vascular system, and have been shown to be critical for the pathogenesis of viral hemorrhagic fevers [33]. CXCL8, ICAM1 and EDN1, all of which were induced in our experiments, are associated with vascular leakage and with worse outcomes in patients [40,47,50]. Excessive release of cytokines and soluble markers likely dysregulate platelet activation.…”

“…There were no cases lost in a study by Kızılgün et al including 41 CCHF patients between the ages of 1 and 17 (29). Serum chemokines levels of pediatric patients that received CCHF diagnosis have been found lower than those of the adults in a multicenter study (30). Factors like hasty transfer of the pediatric age group to a health center and their lower chemokines response may explain low mortality in the pediatric age group.…”

“…The basis of treatment in this disease consists supportive care. When necessary, the patients should be given thrombocyte suspension, freshly frozen plasma and erythrocyte suspension; respiratory, dialysis, and parenteral nutrition support should be provided; and fluid-electrolyte balance should be monitored (30). In our study, two of the 6 patients receiving CCHF diagnosis were given ribavirin and the remaing 4 were followed with supportive care.…”
