“…The major reproductive activity occurred in September, with 77% mature oocytes in the gonad: yet, the condition index for the same period represented less than half (42%) the maximum (96%). Lango‐Reynoso (1999) did not find a direct relationship between oocyte diameter and condition index of three C. gigas populations in France.…”

“…This is attributable to the little presence of atretic oocytes in the histological preparations and because, starting in October, the oysters were only in the undifferentiated phase or males in the early gametogenesis stage. In France, in populations of Pacific oysters, female specimens diminish rapidly and disappear from September to February (Lango‐Reynoso 1999).…”

“…The sex ratio among the groups, which exhibited a predominance of females over the other classes, was also observed in other species of the genus Crassostrea by other researchers including Lenz (), in C. rhizophorae from Camamu (Bahia, BA) by Lenz and Boehs (), in C. rhizophorae from Guaratuba Bay by Christo (), in Crassostrea gigas from France by Lango‐Reynoso et al . () and in C. gigas from Korea by Lee et al . ().…”

“…Although growth and gametogenesis in particular also impact respiration rates, this effect was not observed in this study. The adult respiration rates were the same in June and October at different gametogenesis stages: in June more than 70% of the population was mature, while the entire population had spawned in October (oyster farmer observations for 2007 and Lango- Reynoso et al (1999Reynoso et al ( , 2000 for previous years). Temperature is probably the most important factor controlling respiration rates.…”
