Elemental Analysis of Lubricants and Additives

Abstract: Several elements are purposely added to lubricants to enhance their engine performance. The role of these elements in performance is discussed. Alternate methods of analysis such as atomic absorption spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry, and X-ray fluorescence are widely used analytical techniques. These are discussed with examples of analysis of lubricants.
