Cordia obliqua is an underutilized forest tree having food, medicinal, and industrial applications. Its flower buds are in great demand and are consumed as a raw vegetable in different states of India, including Odisha. It is also used in traditional medicine to treat various diseases. However, there is a huge gap between conventional use (food and medicine) and scientific evidence. The elemental analysis (S, K, Mg, P, Mn, Ca, Fe, Zn, Ni, and Cu) of leaves and flower buds was performed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrophotometry. The elements found in significant quantities are K (18740 mg/Kg), P (1530 mg/Kg), Fe (71.9 mg/Kg), and Cu (22.5 mg/Kg) in flower buds. In contrast, the major elements found in leaf samples are S (2280 mg/Kg), Mg (1400 mg/Kg), Mn (1700 mg/Kg), Ca (957 mg/Kg), Zn (58 mg/Kg), and Ni (23 mg/Kg). Nutritional analysis of flower buds revealed the presence of carbohydrates (38.7 mg/dry weight), proteins (89 mg/g dry weight), fiber (127 mg/g in dry weight), and Vitamin C (2.5 mg/g dry weight). In contrast, the leaves consist of carbohydrates (26.9 mg/g dry weight), proteins (30.4 mg/g dry weight), fiber (127 mg/g in dry weight), and Vitamin C (5.0 mg/g dry weight). The flower buds also have high antioxidant activity. Sufficient nutritional value was obtained from both the leaves and flower buds of C. obliqua, which could fulfill the required amount of diet supplements as per the suggestion of Nutrition Requirements and Recommended Dietary Allowance.

In this study, underutilized jicama starch (JS) is treated in dielectric‐heating at different power (300, 450, 600 W) and time (1, 3, 5 min), and the change in structural, thermo‐functional, and rheological properties is observed. The dielectric modification increases the water absorption (0.81–2.88 g g−1), whereas the oil absorption capacity (1.02–0.83 g g−1) and bulk density (0.52–0.39 g mL−1) are reduced as compared to native starch. Lightness (95.46–96.26) of JS non‐significantly varies with dielectric‐heating, whereas a significant effect is observed in redness (0.01–0.06) and yellowness (3.74–4.24). The apparent viscosity of all treated samples shows shear thinning behavior. All the pasting properties other than the setback and pasting temperature of dielectric treated samples are significantly (p < 0.05) decreased at higher power than control. The onset (46.50–81.67 °C), peak (64–99.23 °C), and end temperature (68.27–100.77 °C) of gelatinization transition increased, which shows better thermal stability as compared to control. The strong‐peak for the control and treated sample is observed at around 1000 cm−1 wavenumber in the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The structural changes have been observed by X‐ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and scanning electron micrographs (SEM) shows shrinkage and deformation at each power and time.

Plants are constantly threatened by a virus infection, i.e., Potyviruses, the second largest genus of plant viruses which results in several million-dollar losses in various essential crops globally. Yam bean (Pachyrhizus erosus) is considered to be one of the essential tuberous legume crops holding a great potential source of starch. Yam Bean Mosaic Virus (YBMV) of Potyvirus group belonging to the family potyviridae affects Yam bean and several angiosperms both in the tropical and sub-tropical regions causing large economical losses in crops. In this study, we attempted to understand the sequence-structure relationship and mode of RNA binding mechanism in YBMV CP using in silico integrative modeling and all-atoms molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The assembly of coat protein (CP) subunits from YBMV and the plausible mode of RNA binding were compared with the experimental structure of CP from Watermelon mosaic virus potyvirus (5ODV). The transmembrane helix region is present in the YBMV CP sequence ranging from 76 to 91 amino acids. Like the close structural-homolog, 24 CPs monomeric sub-units formed YBMV a conserved fold. Our computational study showed that ARG124, ARG155, and TYR151 orient towards the inner side of the virion, while, THR122, GLN125, SER92, ASP94 reside towards the outer side of the virion. Despite sharing very low sequence similarity with CPs from other plant viruses, the strongly conserved residues Ser, Arg, and Asp within the RNA binding pocket of YBMV CP indicate the presence of a highly conserved RNA binding site in CPs from different families. Using several bioinformatics tools and comprehensive analysis from MD simulation, our study has provided novel insights into the RNA binding mechanism in YBMV CP. Thus, we anticipate that our findings from this study will be useful for the development of new therapeutic agents against the pathogen, paving the way for researchers to better control this destructive plant virus.
