Electrostatic Spray Deposition of Doped Ceria Films

Abstract: Dense and thin electrolyte films are desirable for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) because of their low gas leakage and low ohmic resistances. This work aims at the preparation of thin dense Gd‐doped ceria (CGO) electrolyte films using a cost‐effective deposition method in ambient atmosphere–electrostatic spray deposition (ESD). The deposition parameters such as deposition temperature, concentration and flow rate of precursor solution were changed systematically to examine their effects on film morphology and h… Show more

“…These include physicalvapour-deposition techniques, such as magnetron sputtering 11,12 and pulsed laser deposition, 13 and a variety of liquid-precursorbased methods, including spin coating 14 and electrostatic-spray deposition. 15,16 Flame-spray deposition is a wet chemical route which has received particular attention of late in relation to the deposition of CGO electrolytes for m-SOFCs. 17,18 There are large discrepancies in reported electrical-transport results for CGO and YSZ thin lms.…”

“…A schematic diagram of current ESD system can be found elsewhere [23]. In brief, stochiometric amounts of Sm(NO 3 ) 3 · 6H 2 O, Sr(NO 3 ) 2 , Co(NO 3 ) 2 · 6H 2 O were dissolved to a mixture solvent of 2-(2-Butoxyethoxy)-ethanol to obtain a precursor solution with a total concentration of 0.4 M for all metal ions.…”
