Electrospun progesterone‐loaded cellulose acetate nanofibers and their drug sustained‐release profiles

Abstract: Novel cellulose acetate (CA) nanofibers incorporated with hormone progesterone (P4) were prepared by electrospinning and its potential as a controlled release system for medicine and veterinary was evaluated by controlled release essay. The morphology, thermal behavior, and structure of P4‐loaded CA nanofibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy. The analyses revealed that the incorporation of P4 increased nanofibers… Show more

“…According to previous studies, the content of 10% w/w (pheromone weight to PHB weight) facilitated the homogenous dispersion of TDDA within PHB 18 . The observed increase in fiber diameter upon TDDA loading further supports its effective distribution within the 5‐PHB‐TDDA fiber 15,30,31 . The appearance of branched substructures in 7‐PHB‐TDDA may be a consequence of the inhomogeneity of the spinning solution affecting the fiber morphology.…”

“…18 The observed increase in fiber diameter upon TDDA loading further supports its effective distribution within the 5-PHB-TDDA fiber. 15,30,31 The appearance of branched substructures in 7-PHB-TDDA may be a consequence of the inhomogeneity of the spinning solution affecting the fiber morphology. It is evident that molecular entanglements exhibit greater strength in solutions with high concentrations.…”

“…With respect to the n values of CA-AS005 and CA-AS01 – for the corresponding geometries – we can conclude that both of these samples release the incorporated drug following a typical Fickian diffusion. Interestingly, CA-AS1 and CA-AS5 samples demonstrated lower n values suggesting that the drug release is controlled also by a Fickian diffusion, but in a more sustained manner [ 34 , 35 ]. This can be seen in Fig.…”

“…Nanoremediation is a fast and effective technology that leverages engineered or biogenic‐product nanomaterials in treatment processes 10 . Numerous studies have been conducted on nanoremediation using different types of nanomaterials, including carbon, silica, metal, and polymers 11,12 . In addition, studies involving nanomaterials have produced modified structures like microorganism‐integrated materials.…”
