Electroproduction of nucleon resonances

Abstract: Abstract. The unitary isobar model MAID has been extended and used for a partial wave analysis of pion photo-and electroproduction in the resonance region W < 2 GeV. Older data from the world data base and more recent experimental results from Mainz, Bates, Bonn and JLab for Q 2 up to 4.0 (GeV/c) 2 have been analyzed and the Q 2 dependence of the helicity amplitudes have been extracted for a series of four star resonances. We compare single-Q 2 analyses with a superglobal fit in a new parametrization of Maid20… Show more

“…Yet as the magnetic term increases with Q 2 , the helicity difference runs through a zero at Q 2 ≈ 0.4 GeV 2 , and eventually the cross section σ 1/2 dominates. The latter finding is a prediction of perturbative QCD since only states with helicity 1/2 can be produced by absorption on an individual free quark, and it is also corroborated by the analysis of various experiments [100,102,103]. Figure 7 also shows an overall decrease of the cross sections with increasing momentum transfer Q 2 .…”

“…At low Q 2 , the agreement is not so good, since the meson cloud contributions are expected to be important and even dominant in some transitions [1,2,[18][19][20][21].…”

“…For the à N ! Á reaction, the meson cloud contributions are shown to be crucial [1,2,16,32,33]. Then, it is natural to investigate the role of the meson cloud also for the other octet to decuplet electromagnetic transitions.…”
