Electropolymerized Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Film: EIS Sensing of Bisphenol A

Abstract: Bisphenol A (BPA) sensing was investigated based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements of an electropolymerized molecularly imprinted polymer (E-MIP) film. The E-MIP film is composed of varying ratios of BPA–terthiophene and carbazole monomer complex deposited onto indium tin oxide (ITO) substrates via anodic electropolymerization using cyclic voltammetry (CV). Subsequently, the interfacial properties of these films were studied using the non-Faradaic EIS technique. The same technique wa… Show more

“…Compared with antibodies, the MIPs exhibit some clear advantages such as outstanding stability, lower cost, and tailor-made property, which M A N U S C R I P T A C C E P T E D ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPT 6 make them especially suitable for sensor applications. By the use of BPA-imprinted MIPs as the recognition element, electrochemical sensors for BPA detection have been developed [21][22][23]. As the BPA is an electrochemically-active molecule, oxidation of the BPA bound to MIPs film results in a shift in oxidation current, thus allowing for the quantitative detection of BPA.…”

“…There are several methods of forming molecularly imprinted films, including sol-gel [29], electrochemical polymerization, [30] in situ polymerization [31] and self-assembly [32]. Among them, imprinted sol-gel has been widely used in the development of imprinted sol-gel sensors [33][34][35][36][37][38][39]. The imprinting of hybrid sol-gel materials has great interest in the last few decades due to their unique properties [40][41][42].…”
