Electrophoretic Growth of Lead Zirconate Titanate Nanorods

Abstract: Nanorods of lead zirconate titanate (PZT)—a ferro‐ and piezoelectric material—up to 10 μm in length and 70 to 150 nm in diameter are produced by sol‐gel electrophoresis of PZT in a track‐etched polycarbonate membrane, which is used as a template. The Figure gives a close‐up view of a PZT film with nanowires attached, as obtained after pyrolytic removal of the organic template.

“…The electric fields applied for the growth of nanorod arrays varied in the range of 0-6 V/cm. Detailed set-up can be found in our previous publications [7,[10][11][12]. After the growth of nanorod arrays, the filled templates were dried at 100…”

“…Namely, porous alumina membranes 70,[74][75][76][77][78]616 and ZnO nanorods/wires 617 have very frequently served for this purpose. Overall, DSSCs produced using such TiO 2 nanotubular structures typically show a 3-5 % conversion efficiency.…”

“…BaTiO3, PbZr1-xTixO3, SrTiO3, are the most extensively investigated 85 material due to their excellent ferroelectric characteristics. 17,19 Although PbZr1-xTixO3 nanowires were the first 1D structures to be synthesised, 153,154 BaTiO3 nanowires were the first to be studied for their size-dependent ferroelectric behaviour 54 Figure 3 shows SEM and TEM images of different forms of pervoskite-based ID ferroelectric nanostructures synthesised recently by various template-free methods. Hydro/solvothermal 15 synthesis has been effectively utilised for synthesising complex pervoskite ferroelectric nanowires and tubes, owing to the homogeneous mixing of individual reactants under subcritical conditions.…”
