The magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra of decacyc1ene (I) and hexabenzocoronene (II) have been measured. The absorptIOn spectra of I and II located in the lowest wavenumber region (22-30 X 10 3 em-') were assigned by using the MCD spectra and the results of the SCF screened potential1T-MO CI calculatIOns. The IE' and IE lu excited states of I and II are located at 26.5 and 26.1 X 10 3 em -I, respe~tlve1y. The calculated Faraday AID values for these excited states agreed well with the ex penmen tal values both in signs and in magnitudes. The calculated Faraday B values for these excited states tended to be larger than the experimental values.
