Electronic structure of the double-exchange ferromagnetLa0.825Sr0.175MnO

Abstract: Temperature-dependent optical reflectivity spectra were measured on cleaved surfaces of La 0.825 Sr 0.175 MnO 3 single crystals up to 6.6 eV. The present result demonstrates that the exchange-gap excitation in the optical conductivity spectrum splits into two parts (ϳ3.2 and ϳ5 eV͒. This indicates that the t 2g orbitals also participate in the reconstruction of the optical excitation caused by spin polarization. Based on the present result, we propose and discuss a model for the electronic structure of this pr… Show more

“…The magneto-optical properties of our high-quality LSMO films have been studied as a function of the thickness. Combining these results with previous spectroscopic measurements [3,4], the nature of the optical transitions can be predicted.Films of thickness ranging from 10 to 60 nm were deposited on SrTiO 3 (1 0 0) substrate by pulsed laser deposition at a reduced substrate temperature of 630 C under a low oxygen/ozone pressure of 5 Â 10 À3 mbar. For the optimized O 3 concentration, no damping was observed in the intensity of the RHEED specular beam, and moreover, the 2D step edge growth mode was confirmed by the streaky RHEED patterns.…”

“…The features in the high-energy region (above 1.8 eV) in Figure 1b arise from transitions between O2p and Mn 3d as well as between lower and upper Hund's rule split bands. 29,32 Owing to the Kramers-Kronig transformation, the pre-eminence of the spectroscopic ellipsometry approach allows one to measure the charge transfer accurately using the optical f-sum rule. 22,23 As the temperature decreases, an increase of SW 1 by as much as~33% below T max is accompanied by a decrease of SW 2 spanning an energy range up to 6 eV ( Figure 1f).…”

“…Based on the reflection spectra provided by refs. [16,17], dielectric functions of LSMO at the temperatures from 100 to 295 K are obtained by using K-K approach, as illustrated in Figure 1.…”
