Kinetic parameters for the anodic oxidation of biphenyl halides were determined in dry acetonitrile and tetra-nbutylammonium tetrafluoroborate on a platinum electrode. Single and double potential step chronoamperometry allowed the calculation of heterogeneous rate constants for the first voltammetric wave. The values of the rate constants, according to the substituting halide, showed the sequence: F < C1 < Br < I. Half-peak potentials were found to be well correlated to the values obtained for the rate constants as well as to the calculated Hfickel molecular orbital (HMO) energies. An estimate of ionization potentials was made from the correlation between half-wave potentials and HMO energies. ) unless CC License in place (see abstract). ecsdl.org/site/terms_use address.
