Abstract: One of the grand challenges of modern science is to image chemical reactions and biological functions while they are taking place. To realize these molecular movie, experimental techniques need to resolve the relevant molecular motions on their natural dimensions, namely sub-atomic (≤10 ‾‾10 m) spatial dimensions and in few- to hundreds of femtoseconds (10 ‾‾15 ) in duration.
