Electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of some oxovanadium(IV) chelates

Abstract: X-Band e.p.r. spectra of magnetically dilute glasses at 77 K show that ethanol and pyridine form weak complexes with vanadyl chelates and that vanadium(iv) in solutions of these chelates is readily oxidised to vanadium (v).A method which enables spin Hamiltonian parameters to be extracted from systems which have CeV symmetry is described, and the magnetic and optical properties of some five-and six-membered ring chelates of the V 0 2 + ion, and of their complexes with ethanol and with pyridine, are listed. The… Show more

“…This indicates that the exchange interactions in the solid state at RT are disrupted upon dilution with solvents. In the frozen solution anisotropic spectra of all the complexes in DMSO, two sets of eight lines are obtained as expected [54]. The g values are comparable with the values reported for oxovanadium(IV) complexes [55,56].…”

“…With regard to the EPR spectra, the coordination environment of vanadium can be deduced from the epr parameters g and A, the magnitude of which correlate with the structure of the complex [24,25]. In order to avoid the dipolar broadening effect, the present studies were carried out in the solution state [26].…”

“…After a certain catalytic reaction period, the reaction solution was transferred into the ESR tube and the ESR tube was sealed by firing. The simulation was carried out according to the literature, [27] assuming the axial symmetry for vanadium.…”
