Electron nuclear double resonance of the cubic Dy3+ center in the KZnF3 single crystal

Abstract: ENDOR measurements on the 19F -nuclei in the first four shells of KZnF 3 containing Dy'+ ions in the cubic site are reported. The values and signs of the hyperfine and transferred hyperfine interaction parameters are determined. The local deformation of the crystal lattice in the vicinity of the impurity ion is estimated. The theoretical analysis of the THFI parameters for the first coordination shell of the F -ions has been carried out. For the Dy3 + ion the influence of spin polarization of the closed 5s and… Show more

“…The analysis of the separate non-dipolar contributions shows that for the tetragonal Yb 3ϩ center in KMgF 3 , 6 as well as for the cubic and the trigonal ones, polarization effects contribute very little to THFI. This is contrasting with other RE ion ͓for example, Gd 3ϩ , 23 Dy 3ϩ , 33 Er 3ϩ ͑Ref. 23͔͒.…”

“…So far, their properties have been studied mainly with respect to the spectroscopic characteristics of various impurity ions embedded into this host, with the transition metal and rare earth ions being the most frequently used impurities. Thus, the following impurities and phenomena in doped KZnF 3 have been studied: interaction of the Cu 2þ -Mn 2þ pairs [1], spectra of V 2þ [2], Co 2þ and Cr 3þ and laser action of these ions [3,4], the Jahn-Teller effect for Fe 2þ ion [5] and Cr 3þ ions [6], Co 2þ excited state absorption [7] and Co 2þ energy level calculations [8], absorption and emission spectra of Ni 2þ [9], Mn 2þ [10], Cu 2þ [11], Nd 3þ [12], Dy 3þ [13], Yb 3þ [14], Eu 2þ and Ce 3þ ions [15], the pressure induced energy levels crossing for Cr 3þ [16], the Cr 3þ spectra and energy levels [17], interaction of Cr 3þ ions with vacancies [18], ab initio studies of V 2þ [19] and Cr 3þ energy levels using the potential embedded method [20]. The spectra of divalent europium ions in a similar KMgF 3 structure were also reported [21].…”

“…Photoluminescence and/or magnetic properties of 3d n ions like Mn 2+ [3,27,40], Mn 4+ [19], Ni 2+ [28,48], Co 2+ [5,45], Cr 3+ [49], Cr 2+ [14,31], Cu 2+ [12], 4f n lanthanides like Yb 3+ [4,25,39], Tm 3+ [41], Dy 3+ [15], Ce 3+ , Eu 2+ [20], Eu 3+ [34], Tb 3+ [9] and ns 2 ion Tl + [2] have been studied quite extensively. KZnF 3 :Tl + is of interest as a promising material for tunable lasers in the UV region [1] and scintillator [2] while KZnF 3 :Co 2+ serves similar purpose in mid infrared region [7,23,33].…”
