Electron-microscopy study of ordered silver nanoparticles synthesized in a ZnO:Al polycrystalline film

Abstract: The optical absorption spectra and structural properties of samples series consisting of AZO oxide films with an intermediate layer of silver nanoparticles with different sol compounds were investigated. TEM analysis of the obtained coatings showed that the nanoparticles in the AZO film form an ordered structure, and the distance between them depends on the sol composition and the film annealing temperature. Optical measurements showed that a position of the nanoparticle plasmon peak in AZO also depends on the… Show more

“…ZnO was chosen as a material of buffer layer based on several points. Firstly, the technology of obtaining ZnO by the sol-gel method is well studied and simple, and a sol composition based on 2-methoxyethanol has been previously developed, which allows to obtain polycrystalline zinc oxide films with high uniformity and smooth surface [21,22]. Secondly, the coating of different material layers from sols based on a single solvent allows for better adhesion and the quality of interlayer boundaries [23].…”

“…Deposition of ZnO was carried out in accordance with the method described above for obtaining of NPs. In general, the method of obtaining Ag NPs and ZnO layer has been described in detail in our previous works [21,22].…”

“…Recently, new functional photonic materials with incorporation of Ag, Au, and Cu nanoparticles (NPs) have been developed to activate the effects of localized plasmon resonance [10,11], while the materials with Fe and Co NPs activate ferroelectric effects [12]. This strategy is used to increase the efficiency of photovoltaics [13], photocatalysis [14] and photodetection [15] devices.…”

“…The present research is a continuation of studies of optical and structural properties, as well as of the processes of silver nanoparticles formation (Ag NP) in a ZnO semiconductor films using the sol-gel method with high-temperature annealing. In our previous research we have shown that this method provides an ordered Ag NP system within the ZnO film due to Ag diffusion [9]. However, since all previous works were dedicated to the study of ordering in structures with a single NP layer, there is an issue of how the NP formation will occur in structures with more than one NP layer, and whether diffusion will take place between the layers.…”
