Abstract

The reflectance R and transmittance T of a thin film system are defined respectively as the ratio of the reflected and transmitted energies to the incident energy. The reflected and transmitted amplitudes are in general com plex quantities whose arguments represent phase changes on reflection or transmission by the film. §1 .5. Single Film Calculations The reflection and transmission coefficients for a single transparent film may be expressed in terms of the Fresnel coefficients of reflection and transmission for the two interfaces.
