Electromagnetic design of a new radial flux permanent magnet motor

Abstract: This paper proposes a new design study for a three-phase permanent magnet motor. The radial flux machine has 12 pole type magnets in its rotor internally and a surface mounted stator has 36 coils surrounding the cores. Initially, a magnetostatic study has been performed, and then a 2D transient finite element analysis has been realized in order to verify the new design concept. Then, a harmonic analysis is performed to see the harmonic impact on the design performance and achieving a good prototype. The new-de… Show more

“…It is possible to create the desired design by using an approximation method and a computer software working parallel with the finite difference and finite element methods. By applying a FEM to machine design, it is possible to determine the electromagnetic parameters at a very high accuracy in that manner [29][30][31]. Finite element analysis was developed to find approximate numerical solutions of the magnitudes that are continuous in a particular region such as the fields and their variations on the studied region.…”

“…In order to provide those superiorities, permanent magnets (PMs), especially produced from rare‐earth elements, are key components 2,3 . These magnets can be produced in any geometry and magnetization range, having high magnetic flux density; 4‐6 thereby, PM generators with those magnets have been attracting great interest by the industry 7 …”

“…These machines can be used in industry as motor and compensator, energy generation as generator (Hansen & Michalke 2008;Adlya & Huzayyin 2019;Bayındır & Vadi 2017). Particularly because of their high efficiency, there is increasing interest in synchronous machines (Bouloukza et al 2018). SynRM is consider as one of the synchronous machine types has no magnetic parts or any winding in the rotor construction.…”
