Electrokinetic properties of textile fabrics

Abstract: This paper reports electrokinetic phenomena concerning the properties of textile fabrics that are crucial for dyeing and finishing processes. These interface phenomena influence the adsorption of surfactants, optical brighteners, dyes and finishing agents due to interaction forces between the fibre surface and solution. Zeta potential, isoelectric point, point of zero charge and the amount of surface charge of standard adjacent fabrics (cotton, wool, viscose rayon, polyamide, polyester and acrylic) have been d… Show more

“…It gives information about the nature and dissociation of reactive (functional) groups, about polarity, hydrophilicity or hydrophobicity of the solid surface, indirectly the chemical nature of studied sample and about ion or water sorption too [7,32]. This information is important for other polymer foils usage.…”

“…This information is important for other polymer foils usage. Zeta potential can be determined using electrokinetic measurements, inclusive electrophoresis, sedimentation potential, electroosmosis, streaming current or streaming potential [7,24,[30][31][32][33][34][35]. Measurements using multiple techniques are invaluable, since the errors with different techniques are often of opposite sign [30].…”

“…Four scans at a resolution of 4 cm -1 were recorded for each sample between 4000 and 380 cm -1 . Electrokinetic potential versus pH was measured through the streaming potential method using a Brookhaven-Paar electrokinetic analyser (EKA) with a stamp cell, and calculated according to the Helmholtz-Smoluchowsky equation [17]. e zeta potential and isoelectric point (IEP) of the textile fabrics were determined and analysed.…”
