Purpose: to identify the immediate effect of the sonorous tongue-trill technique associated with tonal variation on the vocal range profile of chorists, analyzing time spent on choral singing, voice types and exercises. Methods: quantitative cross-sectional study, with 13 singers, eight women and five men, mean age of 39± 20.11 years, with different voice types. The vocal range profile was obtained using Vocalgrama software (CTS Informática). Samples were collected at three different times: before, after one minute and after two minutes of applying the sonorous tongue-trill technique associated with tonal variation. Results: six chorists (46.2%) showed an increase in vocal range profile after two minutes of the technique. Sopranos and tenors obtained higher mean vocal range profile at any of the three times considered. Conclusion: the sonorous tongue-trill technique associated with tonal variation had no effect on the vocal range profile of the chorists under study.

RESUMO Objetivo A terapia fonoaudiológica vocal promove mudanças de hábitos relacionados à voz do paciente, assim como sua reabilitação. O fonoaudiólogo pode utilizar desde materiais como figuras até recursos eletrônicos e de informática como instrumentos facilitadores durante esse processo. A tecnologia móvel é atrativa, interativa e presente em tempo quase integral na rotina de parte da população e apresenta-se crescente na área da saúde. Desenvolver um protótipo de aplicativo para terapia vocal, submetê-lo à análise por pares e aprimorar o protótipo inicial a partir das apreciações. Método foi desenvolvido um protótipo do aplicativo Q-Voz com base nas Diretrizes de Interface Humana da Apple. O protótipo foi analisado por sete fonoaudiólogos que atuam na área de voz e, a partir das apreciações, foram realizadas melhorias no produto. Resultados todos os recursos do aplicativo foram considerados muito satisfatórios pela maioria dos avaliadores. Todos os avaliadores consideraram o aplicativo muito útil; referiram acreditar que os pacientes terão mais facilidade em realizar mudanças no comportamento vocal com o aplicativo que sem ele; que usariam esse aplicativo com seus pacientes disfônicos em reabilitação; e consideraram que o aplicativo apresenta ferramentas úteis para o autogerenciamento vocal. A partir das sugestões, foram realizadas seis melhorias no protótipo. Conclusão o protótipo do Aplicativo Q-Voz desenvolvido foi avaliado por sete fonoaudiólogos e aprimorado. Todos os avaliadores afirmaram que usariam o aplicativo com seus pacientes em reabilitação, o que indica que o Aplicativo Q-Voz para dispositivos móveis pode ser considerado uma ferramenta auxiliar para a terapia fonoaudiológica vocal.

The Flow and Pressure Relationships in Different Tubes Commonly Used for Semi-occluded Vocal Tract Exercises

This experimental study investigated the back pressure (p back ) versus flow (U) relationship for 10 different tubes commonly used for semi-occluded vocal tract exercises (SOVTE), i.e., 8 straws of different lengths and diameters, a resonance tube and a silicone tube similar to a Lax Vox tube. All tubes were assessed with the free end in air. The resonance tube and silicone tube were further assessed with the free end under water at the depths from 1 to 7 cm in steps of 1 cm. The results showed that relative changes in the diameter of straws affect p back considerably more compared to the same amount of relative change in length. Additionally, once tubes are submerged into water, p back needs to overcome the pressure generated by the water depth before flow can start. Under this condition, only a small increase in p back was observed as the flow was increased. Therefore, the wider tubes submerged into water produced an almost constant p back determined by the water depth, while the thinner straws in air produced relatively large changes to p back as flow was changed. These differences may be taken advantage of when customizing exercises for different users and diagnoses and optimizing the therapy outcome.
