Electrodeposition of Ni on MWNTs as a promising catalyst for CO2RR

Abstract: Novel methods for the preparation of metal‐supported materials are desired for better catalytic performance and selectivity. In this article, Ni supported on multiwall nanotubes (Ni/MWNTs) is synthesized with electrodeposition method for electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). The sample drying time after electrodeposition is found critical to oxidize Ni for better activity, and higher Ni oxidation state is required for CO2RR. The loading effect study proves that higher current density is achieved fro… Show more

“…122,123 The electrodeposition technique is one of the commonly used methods for preparing electrocatalysts and has a number of greatly outstanding advantages, such as simple equipment and environmental friendliness. 123 More importantly, using this technique, loaded catalysts can be directly deposited on different substrates (carbon-based materials, 124–126 metal foams 127–129 and metal foils, 128 etc .) to prepare CO 2 RR electrodes without the addition of other binders and conductive additives.…”

“…Electrodeposition is another promising technique for preparing M-SACs. 17,54 The metal loading and the dispersion of metal atoms are controlled by electrodeposition conditions including electrode potentials, ion concentration, and pH value. 55,56 For example, Zhang et al prepared a series of M-SACs (Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Pt, and Au) through electrodeposition.…”

“…Due to the low reserves and high price of noble metal electrocatalysts, transition metal-based electrocatalysts for CO 2 reduction in alkaline media have high economic feasibility and stability, and they have been widely concerned in the development of various electrocatalysts. Fe-based materials are considered as promising electrochemical catalysts due to their high reserves, low cost, and environmental friendliness .…”
