Electrodeposited CdS thin films and their application in CdS/CdTe solar cells

Abstract: Technologically the electrochemical deposition method through the influence of potential, temperature, pH and composition of reactants offers excellent control lover the properties of semiconductors Using a potentiostatic approach, the films of CdS were deposited on t i n oxide coated glass substrates at merent conditions. The films were found to be smooth, uniform and adherent 114th a small grain size. X-ray &tion analysis indicated a hexagonal phase rather than the cubic phase.Electrochemica1 deposition para… Show more

“…It is known indeed that various deposition techniques create CdS films in either predominantly or considerable concentration of wurtzite phase, [5][6][7][8] which is piezo-active; the alternative cubic phase is not piezo-active and can be present as a part of a mixture. The piezoelectric coupling factor ͓the ratio of conserved ͑elastic͒ over transformed ͑electrical͒ en-ergy͔ ͉k͉ տ 0.1 in CdS is several times greater in absolute value than that of the crystalline quartz, a known "classical" piezoelectric.…”

“…As previously reported, under pH lower than 2, S 2 O 3 2À would be decomposed and form colloidal sulfur. 32 Therefore, the electrodeposition reaction of CdS is dependent on pH. Here, in the coating of CdS, pH 3.0 H 2 SO 4 solution was applied containing 0.1 M CdCl 2 and 10 mM Na 2 S 2 O 3 at room temperature.…”

“…CdS thin films have been prepared by several methods such as Close Spaced Sublimation (CSS) [3], Electrochemical Deposition [4], and Chemical Bath Deposition [5]. The latter appears to be the best technique for depositing cadmium sulphide with the best optical, electrical and morphological properties for the fabrication of solar cells.…”
